Just about everywhere in the world, Bloomsday is celebrated on 16 June. And for the past three years, also in Ostend. O., the Belgian city where writer James Joyce and his family enjoyed a long holiday in the blissful summer of 1926. This year, we\u2019re cheating slightly: Bloomsday will be celebrated on Sunday 15 June, at 14.00.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geert Lernout,\u00a0<\/strong>renowned\u00a0Joyceologist,\u00a0<\/strong>will introduce the event and violinist\u00a0Ann-Sofie Vande Ginste<\/strong> will be performing musical intermezzi, based on Irish folk music.\u00a0Steven Van Ammel,\u00a0<\/strong>the well-known bookseller, will delve into the life of Sylvia Beach, the legendary publisher of Ulysses in Paris.<\/strong>\u00a0And\u00a0Viviane De\u00a0Muynck<\/strong>, the grande dame of film and theatre, will perform an excerpt from Molly Bloom\u2019s monologue, especially for us. We will then raise a glass to James Joyce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event is free, in Dutch and English (Viviane De\u00a0Muynck)\u00a0and reservation is essential – seats are limited.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
